Anker, one of the leading technology accessory companies, has announced its next-generation Qi2 chargers that will provide faster charging speeds for the upcoming iPhone models. The new chargers will offer a speed of 15W, matching Apple’s MagSafe chargers.
Currently, Qi-based chargers for iPhones are limited to 7.5W, while MagSafe chargers already offer the faster 15W charging. This has caused some confusion among iPhone users who are looking for faster charging options.
Although Apple has not disclosed the charging speeds for the Qi2 chargers, the technical specifications page indicates a limitation of 7.5W for Qi wireless charging. However, Anker’s spokesperson has confirmed that their new MagGo products will support the maximum 15W charging speed for iPhones, which is in line with Apple’s MagSafe chargers.
Other manufacturers working on the Qi2 technology have not revealed their specific charging speeds yet, but it is expected that they will also support the faster 15W speed.
Interestingly, Qi2 support has already been available on the iPhone 15 models since their launch. However, the upcoming iOS 17.2 update will add Qi2 support for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models, allowing users of these devices to take advantage of the faster charging speeds.
If the Qi2 chargers do indeed offer actual 15W charging speeds similar to MagSafe, it could eliminate the confusion surrounding existing magnetic wireless chargers that are limited to 7.5W charging.
Consumers eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Qi2 chargers will have to wait a little longer. The first batch of Qi2 chargers is expected to be released in late 2023. Companies such as Belkin, Mophie, and Anker have already announced their plans to launch new Qi2 products.
