From Monday to Wednesday, the Flag World Championship takes place, a discipline derived from American football and dependent on the same federation. Flag is played without helmets or shoulder pads, without tackles (instead, the “flag” is torn, with a ribbon attached to the jersey): a game of speed and skill rather than contact, a game to be won. It could be the talk of the town for the next few years if it joins the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, as the NFL works…
5 Sphinxes
The French men’s team sent to Israel – where the World Cup is being held in Jerusalem – has 5 Palois des Sphinxes in its ranks. No wonder the Pau club have won 6 of the last 7 French Cups (losing the final against the younger Molossers of Asnieres-sur-Seine at the end of November). Sphinx’s quarterback and captain of the French flag team, Anthony Riquin, who was injured during the European Club Championship (broken tibia), will participate as offensive coach. Other players selected are Mathieu Dares (attack), Scott Harrison (attack), Antoine Dharmana (attack) and Adrian Dharmana (defence).

A win or lose
This Monday, France faced the USA in the group stage… the Blues lost, logically, 57 to 32. In the afternoon, they gave no leg to the weaker team. From India (6-72). They face Spain and Chile, the other two teams in their group, this Tuesday. The top two in the group will meet in the quarterfinals on Wednesday and will have already clinched a spot for the 2022 World Games in the United States.
