The Archimedes experiment and the temporary complex of the SAR-Grav laboratory are installed in a former hangar dedicated to the maintenance and upkeep of the Sos Enattos mine site. Le Figaro/Tristan Way
Report – The abandoned mine of Sos Enatos in Sardinia has a high-precision “measurement” from 2021 that seeks to establish whether quantum fluctuations in the vacuum are sensitive to the gravitational field.
It’s a pretty amazing place for a science lab. there Sos Enattos is mine, lost in the middle of the Sardinian mountains, an hour’s drive from the east coast, closed in 1996. Lead and zinc veins, already exploited by the Romans 2,000 years ago, were not profitable enough. The site was converted into an open-air museum for twenty-five years. A portion of the outdoor installations (access shafts, workshops, etc.) and galleries have been maintained intact. A few old machines and rust-filled wagons are exposed here and there in the depths of the mine or on the edge of the road leading to the maquis mountain pass. A natural arid landscape and rough wooden planks acting as guides give the whole a far western aspect.
These locations now house, as of 2019, a research lab SAR-Grav. Don’t look for a brand new building or room…
