Summer 2023 will set 1980s music with audio-technica. The Japanese company has announced the recall of Soundburger, its popular portable turntable. Already launched back in November in a limited re-edition to celebrate the brand’s sixtieth anniversary, the palette is back in three new colors: black, white and yellow. The design remains true to the original model introduced in 1983, with the option to offer shades “Inspiration” This period.
At the start of the year, the brand admitted it wasn’t expecting the enthusiasm reserved for its limited-edition turntable. The Retro Red Limited Edition Sound Burger (AT-SB2022) has sold quite a few worldwide. “Faster than expected”, the company noted earlier in the year. The success prompted Audio Technica to revisit the experiment in the spring of 2023.
“The response to the limited edition 60th anniversary model of the Soundburger portable turntable has been overwhelming”Audio-Technica US Marketing Director Gary Bass explains. “We heard loud and clear the frustration of people who were hoping to buy one of these turntables, but couldn’t. The new model, due out in the spring, will be more widely available, though it won’t have the limited edition’s 60th anniversary badge, color and packaging. We hope that Soundburger fans will be equally excited about this new model, and that it will inspire the next generation of analog enthusiasts.He adds.

However, Soundburger has to keep up with the times and comes with a pop art style update. The turntable features Bluetooth technology and a USB-C port for charging. This new iteration embeds a belt drive system with two rotation speeds of 45 rpm and 33 rpm. Audio Technica mentions the presence of a dynamic balance system to guarantee the portability of the turntable. The pressure of the diamond is applied by a spring and there is a DC motor to guarantee constant rotation.
In addition to Bluetooth, the next-generation SoundBurger also incorporates an RCA audio cable. It can be connected to a stereo or audio system, wired or wireless. The stylus is replaceable (ATN3600L) and the turntable has a 12-hour battery life. It has a lithium ion battery.
The Audio Technica Sound Burger (AT-SB727) is available from May 31 for 229 euros. It will be available in black or white, with a yellow version arriving “from summer 2023”. The turntable comes with a 45 rpm adapter, an RCA audio cable (3.5 mm male to dual RCA male) and a USB cable for charging (USB Type-A / USB Type-C). It is positioned as an entry-level turntable that is affordable and easily portable.
